FUN DAY 2015
A great day was had by all at this years fun day. A great turn out of roughs and smooth collies showed their versatility in obedience, rally and agility.
Pictures and a report to follow!
Obreedience - Crufts 2015
The Smooth Collie Obreedience team made an appearance in the Crufts 2015 Obreedience competition. They came 6th out of the 12 teams and were the only team to not include any competitive obedience dogs!!! How's that for natural talent!
Well done to Sophie Harrison and Seanua Sans Souci (Bindi) for organising the team. Team members included Ann Fuller with Plaisance Olive la Belle (Maggie), Kate Giddings with All That Jazz at Ryecombe (Jazz), Lucy Heath with Foxearth Follow Me (Trent), Sheila Campbell with Ryecombe Dolly Mixture (Dolly) and Val Neff with Hightri Until (Poppy)
RSCTA CHARACTER ASSESSMENT 2014
A very enjoyable Character Assessment and Good Citizens Testing Day was held on 19th October 2014, attended by 2 Rough Collies, 9 Smooth Collies and two Shelties. Some of these were just there to watch their kennel-mates, but all those actually taking part in either activity were successful. Thanks to Paula for organising the day, and to Liz for coming along to test the Good Citizens. Thanks to Jude and her team who travelled up to test the temperament of our Collies.
Character Assessment results:
Graded 'excellent' were - Kate Giddings' All That Jazz at Ryecombe (S) and Legend of Camalot's Confusion at Ryecombe (S); Peter Simpson's Ingledene She's Just So at Gaeldom (R); Sophie Harrison's Seanua Sans Souci (S), Abby Lusty's Blamorder Back with a Dream (S); Delia Moore's Manordeifi Silvadora (S).
Graded 'pass' were: Delia Moore's Manordeifi Silver Sparkle (S); Mrs Trundley's Juniperwood King of Kings (S) handled by Abby Lusty
The Bronze Good Citizens Award was gained by Abby Lusty's Blamorder Back with a Dream and the Silver Award by Abby Lusty's Juniperwood Dream Maker at Blamorder (S), and by Jean Tuck's Sheltie Glen.
RSCTA FUN DAY 2014
An excellent turn out of Smooth Collies, with just two Rough Collies, enjoyed a busy day at the 2014 Fun Day at Forest Oak Farm.
Sophie Harrison kindly sent this report: "For the second year in a row the Fun Day was run at the fabulous dog training facility at Forest Oak Farm in Gloucestershire which allows for all weathers and all disciplines to be catered for. Luckily the sun shone which allowed us to use the great outdoor space as well as the huge training hall. Abby Lusty kindly stepped up to organise some basic agility in the morning which was a very popular activity, with the participants ranging from young dogs seeing their very first jumps to more experienced competing dogs. There were clearly some agility stars of the future present – watch out Border Collies, your Rough & Smooth cousins will soon be giving you a run for your money!
Throughout the day Pat Thompson ran a very entertaining challenge competition, which even the youngest of puppies could participate in. The dogs were fabulous, seemingly unbothered by the bizarre fancy dress & able to perform a mixture of control and precision exercises despite their handlers’ appearance. In this exercise (as in so much training) the handlers were definitely the weak link – clearly we all need to practise our throwing skills before the next Fun Day!
Lunchtime was Scavenger and Treasure Hunt time, with a fiendish quiz to answer, and the afternoon was spent learning about Rally Obedience and having an informal competition. The day ended with some fun party games – such as musical mats/statues – always competitively participated in!
A huge thank you to the Committee for organising the day – no mean feat to find a venue, a date and activities that suited so many people. With members travelling from as far away as the Isle of Wight & Cambridgeshire there is no question that the RSCTA has an enthusiastic membership. Several new members have young or rescue dogs and want to participate in dog sports, so the future of the group looks promising. Hopefully it will not be too long before we can field a ‘Large’ agility or ‘Obreedience’ team. This annual meet gives a wonderful opportunity for both humans and dogs to meet up with old friends and to make new ones, to try out a number of different activities and, above all, to have FUN."
